wienerberger acquires Serbian Univerzum Group
The transaction is expected to deliver substantial value creation potential, with a synergised EV/EBITDA multiple of approximately 5x.
wienerberger has announced a further step in its acquisition-based growth strategy with the signing of an agreement to acquire Univerzum Group, the largest clay block producer in Serbia with approximately 200 employees, two production facilities and projected revenue of €20 million in 2026.
The construction sector continues to expand in Serbia and across Southeastern Europe, with demand for clay blocks expected to grow faster than the market average.
In addition, cross-selling opportunities with wienerberger’s established roofing business will further strengthen the group’s position in Serbia and throughout the region.
“This step also expands our portfolio of innovative construction solutions, complementing our growing roofing business in the region,” said Heimo Scheuch, CEO of wienerberger. “The business offers strong value creation potential through a synergised EV/EBITDA multiple of approximately 5x.”
In Serbia, clay blocks remain the material of choice for masonry wall construction. Residential construction and renovation activity has proved resilient and is expected to continue growing, supported by demographic trends, housing shortages and rising quality standards.
The Univerzum Group’s two production sites, one in Aranđelovac to the south of Belgrade and the other in Inđija to the north, are ideally located to serve the Serbian market. The two plants also fit naturally into wienerberger’s existing Southeastern European network, where the group already operates production facilities in Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary and Romania.
