Spain’s first Encyclopaedia of Ceramic Technology published

The project is sponsored by the Altadia Chair at Universitat Jaume I (Castellón).

To mark its third anniversary, the “Altadia Chair of Ceramic Knowledge” at Universitat Jaume I in Castellón has commissioned the publication of Spain’s first encyclopaedia dedicated to industrial ceramics. Drawing on a wealth of expertise accumulated over fifty years of technological progress in the sector, the work serves as a definitive scientific benchmark for technicians, researchers and students seeking to gain a deeper understanding of modern ceramic processes, technologies and materials.

The first volume, entitled “Fundamentals of the Manufacturing Process for White Ceramic Products”, was released by the university’s own publishing house. It was co-authored by two highly respected figures: José Luís Amorós Álbaro, a leading Spanish authority on ceramic technology, and Encarna Blasco Roca, a renowned researcher in the field. The volume provides a comprehensive, up-to-date overview of the scientific and technological foundations necessary for mastering process design, development and quality control in ceramic materials. Divided into five chapters, the book explores theoretical aspects (for example the physical and chemical principles that govern material changes during production) and looks at practical models and real-world industrial examples.

At the official launch, Altadia Group board member Antonio Blasco expressed the Group’s pride in sponsoring an initiative that embodies the synergy between academia and industry, a partnership that Altadia has championed since its inception. Blasco noted that throughout its fifty-year history, the Altadia Group has been a driving force for knowledge transfer between the business and university worlds. Through its founding members, the Group was also a key promoter of the Institute of Ceramic Technology (ITC) in Castellón. More recently, the 2023 establishment of the Altadia Chair in collaboration with Universitat Jaume I has focused on preserving and disseminating the knowledge gained through almost half a century of technological innovation, much of it driven by the Group’s own R&D activities.

The Encyclopaedia is one of the first results of this collaboration and is significant not only for its academic merit but for the way it highlights the core strengths of the Castellón ceramic cluster: its high added value and its commitment to innovation and sustainability. These factors are vital to the competitiveness of the regional industrial fabric, an area in which Altadia Group continues to play a leading role with a presence spanning 19 countries.
