The Italian ceramic tile, sanitaryware, tableware and refractories industry has reported a 2012 turnover of 6.6 billion euro. The continued contraction of the domestic market was offset by the growth in exports, which accounted for 75% of total turnover. Only the Italian-owned tile producers operating abroad achieved two-figure growth.
Acimac’s 20th National Statistical Survey of the sector reveals double-figure growth. Total turnover was up by 26.2%. Exports performed strongly (+31.3%) and the Italian market also showed a recovery (+9.2%).
The Middle East is the largest market, accounting for 20.5% of total export turnover, followed by the European Union (16.8% of the total) and Others Asia (15.5%)
According to figures published by the national trade association’s Study Centre, the Italian ceramic machinery and equipment industry has achieved excellent turnover growth.
Rak group (United Arab Emirates) tops the ranking by tile output volumes. Marazzi Group leads the value-based ranking, which is dominated by Italian companies. Roca Group is the number one world sanitaryware manufacturer
